Due to the events that took place in The Greenland Trilogy, David Maratse, a Greenland Police Constable, is forced into an early retirement. He decides to move to Inussuk, situated on the coast, on the other side of the country, to hunt and to fish. Well, that was the plan. The plan changes in Book 1 when Maratse finds a dead body, murdered. Against his will, he gets involved in the police investigation. In Book 2, he finds an abandoned boat, full of blood… In the meantime, he falls in love with Petra Jensen, a Greenland Police Sargent and the main character of the Greenland Missing Persons series.

Maratse and Petra are finally admitting their feelings for each other and are planning spending a Christmas together. But Petra disappears. Later, her clothes and a note with her handwriting is found next to a hole in the ice. Everyone thinks she committed suicide, except Maratse. He arranges her funeral, but prepares to go looking for her. What happens next is as dark as unbelievable.

As a result of the events that occurred in the previous book, Maratse is sent to prison in Denmark. A jail full of people he had sent to prison is not the best place to be. He’s trapped and forced to make an impossible choice.
